What is the National Disability Insurance Scheme?
The NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Governed by the NDIA – National Disability Insurance Agency, the NDIS provides funding to eligible people with disabilities to gain more time with family and friends, experience greater independence, access to new skills, jobs, and an improved quality of life.
The NDIS also connects anyone with disability to services in their community. This includes connections to doctors, community groups, sporting clubs, support groups, libraries and schools.

What types of supports are funded?
The types of supports that the NDIS may fund for participants include:
- Support Coordination – Support with connecting to NDIS and other supports
- Assistance with Personal Activities
- Travel & Transport to enable participation in community, social, economic and daily life activities
- Assistance with household tasks to allow the participant to maintain their home environment
- Assist with the management of NDIS Funds
- Workplace support to allow a participant to successfully get or keep employment in the open or supported labour market
- Therapeutic supports including behaviour support
- Help to a participant by skilled personnel in aids or equipment assessment, set up and training
- Help to a Home modification design and constructionarticipant by skilled personnel in aids or equipment assessment, set up and training
- Mobility equipment
- Vehicle modifications
