Allied Healthcare Services Australia provides NDIS personal care throughout Holroyd. This is hands-on support with the parts of the day that have to happen – getting up, getting washed, getting dressed, getting out the door – delivered the way you want them done.

Holroyd City Council was abolished in 2016 and its suburbs were divided between Cumberland City Council and the City of Parramatta, but the area is still widely known by its old name. It takes in Merrylands, Guildford, Wentworthville, Greystanes, Pemulwuy, Yennora, Woodpark and the surrounding suburbs – a dense, highly multicultural part of Western Sydney with real infrastructure gaps.

What Personal Care Covers

Personal care is funded under Core Supports as assistance with daily personal activities. It covers the self-care tasks a person cannot safely or comfortably complete without help.

In practice, that usually means some combination of the following:

  • Personal hygiene: Showering, bathing, oral care, shaving, hair and skin care, with as much or as little hands-on help as you need.
  • Dressing and grooming: Help getting dressed and undressed, including managing compression garments, splints or prosthetics.
  • Transfers and mobility: Safe assistance moving between bed, chair, shower and wheelchair, including hoist transfers where two workers are required.

What a Personal Care Shift Includes

  • Morning and evening routines: The two parts of the day where consistent support makes the biggest difference to how the rest of it goes.
  • Medication prompting: Reminders and assistance in line with your medication plan and your provider’s protocols.
  • Continence support: Discreet, dignified assistance with continence routines and associated equipment.
  • Meal assistance: Help with preparation and with eating and drinking, including modified textures where prescribed.
  • Reporting what changes: Skin integrity, appetite, mobility, mood – the small shifts that matter get written down and passed on.

Why worker consistency matters in Holroyd Personal care is intimate work, and who delivers it matters as much as when.

This is one of the most culturally diverse areas in Australia, with Arabic, Mandarin, Nepali, Cantonese and Tamil all widely spoken and around six in ten residents born overseas. Cumberland Council’s own disability planning makes a point worth repeating: the word disability does not exist in many cultures and languages, which is a documented reason people here do not seek support they are entitled to. We start from that assumption rather than from the paperwork.

What Working With Us Looks Like

  • A routine written with you: Before the first shift we go through how you like things done, in what order, and what you would rather do yourself.
  • The same faces where possible: We roster for continuity. Personal care is intimate work and constant new workers make it harder than it needs to be.

What Is Included

  • Support in your own home: Delivered where you live, on a roster built around your day rather than ours.
  • Same-gender workers on request: If you would prefer a male or female support worker, say so and we roster accordingly.
  • Two-worker shifts where needed: For hoist transfers or complex manual handling, we send the number of workers the task safely requires.
  • Coordination with your allied health team: We follow the manual handling plans, mealtime plans and equipment prescriptions your therapists have written.

Tailored Support Across Holroyd

No two participants use the area the same way, so we start with your address, your travel options and which providers can genuinely get to you, before anything is promised.

Public transport use here is the highest in Greater Western Sydney, and around one in eight households has no car at all – five times the rate in the Hills. That makes station accessibility a genuine daily issue. Merrylands, Guildford, Wentworthville, Pendle Hill, Toongabbie and Granville all have lifts. Yennora does not, and its accessibility upgrade is still in progress, so participants in that pocket face a real barrier that we plan around.

The Cumberland Highway runs north-south through Wentworthville and Greystanes, the Great Western Highway runs through Granville and Wentworthville, and Woodville Road, Merrylands Road and Fairfield Road carry most local traffic. Council has publicly identified footpath gaps, limited accessible parking and public toilet accessibility as outstanding issues, which is worth knowing before planning a supported outing.

  • Accessible stations: Merrylands, Guildford, Wentworthville, Pendle Hill, Toongabbie and Granville all have lift access.
  • Yennora: Still without lift access while its upgrade proceeds, so supports around Yennora are usually planned as home-based or driven rather than by rail.

Local Accessibility and Community Venues

These are places participants in the area actually use, and knowing how accessible each one is makes the difference between an outing that works and one that gets abandoned at the door.

  • Wentworthville Memorial Swim Centre: A warm-water pool, a leisure pool with beach entry and a pool lift on the 50 metre pool – the strongest aquatic option in the area for participants with hydrotherapy goals.
  • Merrylands and Guildford Swim Centres: Both council pools have lift or hoist access, making them practical options closer to home for many participants.
  • The Granville Centre: A large multipurpose community hub at Granville with community spaces and an art gallery under one roof.
  • Central Gardens and Holroyd Gardens, Merrylands: Established local parkland close to the Cumberland Highway, useful for outdoor participation and walking goals.
  • Cumberland library branches and Home Library Service: Branches across Merrylands, Guildford, Wentworthville and Granville, plus a home delivery service for residents who cannot get to a branch.

Hospital and Clinical Transitions

Westmead Hospital is a short distance from most of this area and is the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney, a major trauma service, and the site of one of only three adult inpatient brain injury rehabilitation units in New South Wales. The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is co-located. Auburn Hospital provides emergency, general medicine, renal dialysis and low-risk maternity services locally, and Merrylands and Auburn community health centres deliver community-based care. Cumberland Hospital, despite the name, is a mental health facility located in neighbouring North Parramatta.

How We Help After a Hospital Stay

The first few weeks after discharge are usually the hardest. New providers start at once, equipment arrives, appointments stack up and nobody has the full picture. We take the parts we can carry.

  • Getting supports running quickly while the discharge plan is still fresh.
  • Keeping the paperwork straight while several new providers come on board at the same time.
  • Reducing the administrative load on families who are already adjusting to a changed routine.

How Personal Care Is Funded

Personal care sits in Core Supports under Assistance with Daily Life. Core funding is the most flexible part of an NDIS plan, which gives you room to move hours between related supports as your needs change.

Personal Care in Practice

A Familiar Situation

A participant in Merrylands needs morning support with showering and dressing, and a second person for a hoist transfer. The previous provider sent a different worker most weeks, the routine was explained again each time, and the mornings kept running late enough to miss the Guildford appointment bus.

How We Handle It

StepActionBenefit
1Sit down and plan the routineWe map the morning and evening in detail, including preferences most services never ask about.
2Match and introduce the workersYou meet the workers before they start, and we adjust the roster if the match is not right.
3Review as things changeHealth, equipment and confidence all shift over time. The support plan gets updated rather than left to drift.

Who We Work With

We work with participants, families and carers across Holroyd. What we deliver changes with the person, the household and where they live.

  • Participants living alone: People who need reliable daily support to stay in their own home safely.
  • Participants with high physical support needs: Including hoist transfers, two-worker shifts and complex manual handling.
  • Families sharing the care: Households where family provide most support and need consistent, dependable respite in the routine.
  • Participants after a hospital stay: People returning home with new equipment and a routine that has changed since they left.
  • Households without a car: Around one in eight homes here has no vehicle, so supports are planned around the transport that actually exists rather than assuming a lift is available.
  • Families where disability is not an easy word: Culturally sensitive support for households where the concept and the paperwork are both unfamiliar, including interpreter arrangements for plan meetings.

Why Participants Choose Allied Healthcare Services Australia

  • Registered NDIS provider: An externally audited provider meeting the NDIS Practice Standards, registration number 4050019899.
  • Straight answers about capacity: If we cannot cover a day, a time or a suburb, we say so before you commit rather than after.
  • Continuity if you move: If you relocate within the area, your supports and the people delivering them stay with you where we can.
  • Local knowledge that is actually local: We know which stations in this area have lifts and which do not, and we build support around that instead of leaving participants to discover it at the platform.

Services That Work Well Alongside This

Personal care is rarely the only support in a plan. These are the services most often delivered alongside it.

Personal care and household tasks are claimed as separate supports even when they happen in the same visit, so both should be reflected in your plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Holroyd still a council area?

No. Holroyd City Council was abolished in 2016 and its suburbs now sit within Cumberland City Council and the City of Parramatta. The name is still widely used locally, and we cover the whole former Holroyd area regardless of which council an address now falls under.

Can you arrange interpreters for planning meetings?

Yes. Arabic, Mandarin, Nepali, Cantonese and Tamil are all widely spoken here, and arranging an interpreter for a plan meeting or review is a routine part of how we set up support in this area.

Will I get the same support worker every visit?

That is what we aim for, and it is why we ask about preferences up front. Leave and illness mean an occasional change, but we introduce a regular back-up worker so an unfamiliar face is not the norm.

Can I ask for a male or female support worker?

Yes, and it is a reasonable request that we build into the roster from the start rather than treating as an exception.

Getting Started

Most participants are set up within a week or two, depending on roster availability in your suburb.

  • Tell us what you need help with: A short conversation about the routine, the equipment and any manual handling requirements.
  • We check capacity in your suburb: Honest answers about what days and times we can cover before anything is promised.
  • Meet the worker, then start: An introduction visit first, then the regular roster begins.
