Allied Healthcare Services Australia delivers NDIS household tasks support across Blacktown. This is the unglamorous, essential work that keeps a home functioning when a disability makes doing it yourself unsafe, exhausting or simply not possible.

Blacktown is the most populous local government area in New South Wales, and it is really several different places at once. There is the established rail corridor through Seven Hills, Blacktown, Doonside and Rooty Hill, the Mount Druitt cluster, the Quakers Hill and Riverstone corridor, and the north west growth area where whole suburbs have appeared in the last decade.

What Household Tasks Support Covers

Household tasks are funded under Core Supports as assistance with daily life. The support is for tasks around the home that you would do yourself if your disability did not prevent it.

The most commonly funded tasks are:

  • Cleaning and tidying: Kitchen, bathroom, floors, surfaces and the general upkeep that keeps a home safe and liveable.
  • Laundry and linen: Washing, drying, folding, putting away and changing bed linen.
  • Meal preparation and shopping: Planning meals, preparing and portioning food, and either shopping with you or on your behalf.

What a Household Support Shift Includes

  • An agreed task list: Written down in advance so both sides know what the shift covers and nothing is left assumed.
  • Working with you where you want that: Many participants prefer doing part of the task with support rather than having it done for them.
  • Kitchen and food safety: Safe food handling, storage and rotation, particularly where meals are prepared in batches.
  • Keeping the home safe to move through: Clear walkways, managed clutter and hazards flagged before they cause a fall.
  • Telling you when the list needs changing: If the same tasks are no longer the right ones, we raise it rather than working to a stale plan.

Why housing type shapes the support in Blacktown Household support has to fit the home it happens in.

Blacktown has the youngest profile of the areas we cover, with nearly 23 per cent of residents under fifteen, and its disability cohort is growing faster than anywhere else we work – the number of residents needing assistance with core activities rose by around 22 per cent between the last two censuses. It also has one of the larger Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations in Sydney at about three per cent, and very large Indian and Filipino communities.

What Working With Us Looks Like

  • A realistic task list for the time booked: We will tell you honestly what fits into two hours instead of overpromising and rushing.
  • Reviewed when circumstances change: After a hospital stay, a new diagnosis or a change in who else is in the home, the list gets revisited.

What Is Included

  • Regular domestic assistance: A predictable cleaning and laundry routine rather than sporadic catch-ups.
  • Meal preparation, including batch cooking: Meals prepared and stored so there is something ready on the days support is not scheduled.
  • Shopping support: Either accompanied shopping as a skill-building activity, or shopping done on your behalf.
  • Linen, bedding and basic organisation: Including help keeping equipment, medication and paperwork in order.

Tailored Support Across Blacktown

No two participants use the area the same way, so we start with your address, your travel options and which providers can genuinely get to you, before anything is promised.

Rail coverage is good across the established suburbs. Blacktown station has had lift access since the 1990s and is the main bus interchange, and Seven Hills, Doonside, Rooty Hill, Mount Druitt, Marayong, Quakers Hill and Schofields are all accessible. Doonside completed a full Transport Access Program upgrade with four lifts, continuous canopies, accessible parking and family accessible toilets. In the north west, the metro at Tallawong and Rouse Hill gives the growth suburbs step-free rapid transit with platform screen doors.

Riverstone is the notable gap – it offers assisted access rather than independent step-free access, and it is a growth-area station with a library and shopping centre in its catchment. The North-West T-way runs from Blacktown through Parramatta to Rouse Hill with real-time information and audio announcements at its stations, and the M4, M7, Great Western Highway, Richmond Road and Sunnyholt Road carry most road traffic.

  • Established rail corridor and the north west metro: Seven Hills through to Mount Druitt, and Tallawong and Rouse Hill in the north, all offer step-free access.
  • Riverstone and newer growth suburbs: Riverstone is not independently accessible, and suburbs such as Marsden Park, Melonba and Grantham Farm have housing ahead of services, so travel time needs allowing for.

Local Accessibility and Community Venues

These are places participants in the area actually use, and knowing how accessible each one is makes the difference between an outing that works and one that gets abandoned at the door.

  • Westpoint Blacktown: Has two Changing Places facilities, on Level 1 near the food court and on Level 3 – the best-verified provision of its kind in the areas we cover.
  • Max Webber Library, Blacktown: The main branch beside Westpoint, with further branches at Mount Druitt, Stanhope Gardens, Riverstone, Lalor Park and Marsden Park, plus a mobile library.
  • Nurragingy Reserve, Doonside: A large reserve with the Chang Lai Yuan Chinese Gardens, a lake, a water splash area and walking tracks – a practical destination for outdoor participation goals.
  • Bungarribee Park, Western Sydney Parklands: A regional park with a large play tower, flying fox, water play and extensive picnic facilities.
  • The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre: Level access and wheelchair space throughout the public areas, ramp access from Campbell Street and the car park, an accessible toilet beside reception and a free accessible parking space.

Hospital and Clinical Transitions

Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals are part of a $120 million expansion delivering thirty additional beds at each site and two more operating theatres at Blacktown, with Mount Druitt also gaining a new inpatient unit, expanded outpatient facilities and a refurbished Aboriginal family lounge. Both sit within the Western Sydney Local Health District, and Westmead is the tertiary referral hospital for major trauma and inpatient brain injury rehabilitation. A new $910 million hospital is under construction at Rouse Hill, close to the metro station, and will add emergency, inpatient, outpatient and maternity services in the north of the area.

How We Help After a Hospital Stay

The first few weeks after discharge are usually the hardest. New providers start at once, equipment arrives, appointments stack up and nobody has the full picture. We take the parts we can carry.

  • Getting supports running quickly while the discharge plan is still fresh.
  • Keeping the paperwork straight while several new providers come on board at the same time.
  • Reducing the administrative load on families who are already adjusting to a changed routine.

How Household Tasks Are Funded

Household tasks are claimed under Core Supports – Assistance with Daily Life. The NDIS funds this support where the tasks are needed because of your disability, and it is assessed separately from personal care even when both happen in one visit.

Funding FeatureWhat It Means for You

Separate from personal careBoth can occur in one visit, but they are different supports and are claimed separately.
Based on disability-related needFunding covers tasks you cannot do because of your disability, not general housekeeping for the household.

Household Tasks in Practice

A Familiar Situation

A participant in Mount Druitt manages most of the day independently but cannot safely reach the shower recess or carry laundry. Two hours of support a week were funded, but the tasks were never written down, so each visit was spent negotiating what would get done rather than doing it.

How We Handle It

StepActionBenefit
1Walk through the home togetherWe look at the actual space and agree what needs doing and how often.
2Write the task list downEveryone works from the same list, which removes the guesswork and the awkward conversations.
3Revisit it when things changeSeasonal changes, health changes and household changes all shift what the support needs to cover.

Who We Work With

We work with participants, families and carers across Blacktown. What we deliver changes with the person, the household and where they live.

  • Participants living alone: People for whom an unmanageable home quickly becomes a safety issue.
  • Participants with fatigue or chronic conditions: Where energy has to be spent carefully and household tasks are what gets dropped first.
  • Families sharing the load: Households where practical help with the home frees family to spend time together differently.
  • Participants after a hospital stay: People returning home to a house that needs resetting before daily life restarts.
  • Families with school-age participants: Blacktown has the youngest population of the areas we cover, and a large share of our work here is with children, teenagers and young adults.
  • Indian, Filipino and Aboriginal families: Support delivered with attention to language and community, in an area with very large Indian and Filipino populations and one of Sydney’s larger Aboriginal communities.

Why Participants Choose Allied Healthcare Services Australia

  • Registered NDIS provider: An externally audited provider meeting the NDIS Practice Standards, registration number 4050019899.
  • Straight answers about capacity: If we cannot cover a day, a time or a suburb, we say so before you commit rather than after.
  • Continuity if you move: If you relocate within the area, your supports and the people delivering them stay with you where we can.
  • Local knowledge that is actually local: Blacktown is not one place. We plan differently for the established rail corridor, the Mount Druitt suburbs and the north west growth estates, because the practical realities are genuinely different.

Services That Work Well Alongside This

Household support is often booked in the same visit as other assistance. These are the services we most commonly combine it with.

Household tasks and personal care are separate NDIS supports. Where a single visit includes both, each is recorded and claimed against its own line item.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you cover the north west growth suburbs?

Yes – Marsden Park, The Ponds, Schofields, Tallawong, Melonba and the surrounding estates. Services in those suburbs are still catching up with the housing, so we are upfront about which days and times we can genuinely roster before anything is agreed.

Do you work with children and young people?

Yes. Blacktown has the youngest population of any area we cover, with nearly a quarter of residents under fifteen, and a large part of our work here involves school-age participants, transition-age young adults and the families supporting them.

What household tasks can actually be funded?

Tasks you are unable to do because of your disability – cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, shopping and basic home organisation. General maintenance, gardening and repairs sit outside this support and would need separate funding if they are disability-related.

Can the worker do the tasks with me rather than for me?

Yes, and for many participants that is the better arrangement. Doing tasks alongside a support worker maintains skills and independence, and it can be written into your plan as a capacity-building goal.

Getting Started

A short home visit is usually enough to get this started properly.

  • Show us the home: We look at the layout, the equipment and the tasks that are causing the most difficulty.
  • Agree the list and the frequency: Written down, realistic for the hours funded, and agreed by both sides.
  • Start the roster: Regular scheduled support, with the same worker wherever the roster allows.
